STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The world today is entering into a new period of upheavals, a new great revolutionary wave. In Peru, a powerful people's war led by the Communist Party of Peru has been fighting imperialism for 17 years. This year has seen the outbreak of a similar Maoist people's war in Nepal. Many other struggles are also raging against the old order, and the imperialists' arrogant assertion about the "end of history" is proving to be an empty boast foreshadowing their own demise.

It is in the spirit of these times that we are announcing the Maoist Documentation Project. Its purpose is two-fold. First, to create an archive of the revolutionary works of Lenin, Mao Tse-tung, and other revolutionary documents from the many Maoist-inspired struggles against revisionism and imperialism. This will serve as a resource to aid in the ideological development of a new generation of revolutionaries. Second, we wish to create a news service on the Internet which will inform people about the latest developments of the Maoist-led armed struggles in Peru, Nepal, and India, and other countries as we learn about them, as well as spread the ideas of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism as widely as possible.

Towards these ends we have created a World Wide Web page (http://www.maoism.org) which is building an archive of key works of Lenin, the collected works of Mao Tse-tung, key works of the Communist Party of China regarding the fight against revisionism, and documents from the Maoist struggles in Peru, Nepal and India. This is an archive which we hope to expand as time goes on to become a comprehensive source of information about our movement, as well as providing links to other important struggles around the world.

We are also in the process of building an electronic mailing list of supporters to serve as a conduit of information about the struggles against imperialism and revisionism, including timely news about the various guerrilla actions, news about the status of political prisoners and prisoners of war, and articles giving overviews of the various ideological and political struggles of the day. We hope to be able to sharpen and clarify the many ideological struggles around Maoism, Mao Tse-tung Thought, Marxism-Leninism and other revolutionary currents.

What you can do

We need volunteers to aid in the scanning and proofreading of the documents we are archiving. We already have a backlog of material that has been scanned but needs to be proofread. In particular, we are working on the Selected Works of Mao Tse-tung and many documents from the Cultural Revolution, as well as an anthology of the journal Liberation from the CPI-ML. The more people who scan and proofread, the better the archive will be.

Also, we need input from people to both give us information about the struggles going on in the world, and to help disseminate this information as widely as possible. We think it is important to try to end the international isolation of many groups and parties who are struggling around the world.
